Phil English lambasted his underdog Democratic opponent, Steven Porter, for writing a book 13 years ago that speculated on possible merits of sterilizing mental patients or alcoholics.
Yet, Phil English donated $1,000 to Tom Coburn, the man who makes Jesse Helms seem like Barbara Boxer. English says that Coburn has "denied any wrongdoing" and that this is desperate political rebound. The problem is that Coburn bragged about sterilizing underage girls. "Tons" of them. So if he is against sterilization, why did he give Tom Coburn blood money?
Only the Republican Party could make sterilization a partisan issue. It's remarkable.
Does this Porter have any chance? I've never even heard of him. English looks scarily like that crazy Waco televangelist, Kenneth Hagee. Brr.
---
In an interview this week on the Tulsa radio station KRMG, Coburn was asked: "To your knowledge, could this situation have happened, or has happened with any other women?"
Coburn, a physician, replied: "I've done this lots to women who have come in with emergency things who have asked me to sterilize them, underage. When they've already had three babies."
---
Parental consent is the holy grail for anti-abortion activists. The idea of young women terminating their pregnancies without even needing to speak to their parents is anathema to them.
They will likely continue to support Coburn, but these words are out of his own mouth. He is saying out of his own mouth: "I STERILIZED LOTS OF UNDERAGE GIRLS."
This is getting into a whole other realm. This man advocated the death penalty for abortion doctors, and yet he himself has not only committed abortions, he has sterilized women. And not because their lives were in danger. It was simply because they didn't want anymore babies. These were underage girls who were making decisions they may regret for the rest of their lives. He violated all the principles of his party. He took away their ability to have children. Not only that, he then campaigned to kill doctors who perform abortions on adult women who can make their own choices. All while he has taken away the future children of women who are not even out of high school, who have not even gone to their senior prom.
This is not simply hypocritical. It's diabological. It's wrong. It's, as he would say, EVIL.
Please, donate to Brad Carson today. It is absurd that he has to answer attacks that he's "too liberal" or that he missed a few votes or that he is an abortionist, all while Tom Coburn brags about sterilizing underage women. Even in Oklahoma, this is obscene, and should be rectified.
The GOP are thrilled, and are pushing ahead with plans to win Cal Dooley's open CA seat (the Democratic candidate is Jim Costa and the GOP-leaning NY-1, occupied by fresham Dem Tim Bishop.
This seems to continue a bad trend for Dems in Congressional races over the past few months. I hope this doesn't keep going on and on.
Now that Coburn has made a series of ugly gaffes, from attacking Cherokees for not being "real Indians" to various lawsuits against him (including a woman who says he sterilized her without her consent), Carson is gaining ground. He has even taken a 7-point lead in the GOP-leaning Sooner Poll. The same poll had him 7 points behind only 2 weeks ago.
The national GOP are scared to death. They thought this race was over. Now they're dumping an "undisclosed" sum of money into the state to [smear Brad Carson as being a tax-raising "liberal" who hates Bush more than Kerry or Hillary Clinton. In Oklahoma, this type of nastiness could seriously derail his campaign, and take the focus off of the true danger -- Coburn.
This guy is a nut. I normally would not give Carson any money because he supports the Federal Marriage Amendment. But Coburn thinks that gays are one of the biggest threats to America. He thinks we control the "corridors of power". When he worked for the White House's council on AIDS, he slashed tons of funding for gay men who live with AIDS. He slashed tons of funding for safe sex education (he just says "it doesn't work").
He is a serious danger. He isn't a maverick, or wacky, or good for late night comics. He is EVIL.
